New Point of Sale (POS) Receipt Printer
A new POS receipt printer has been installed and is working well, printing clearly, quickly and quietly. The printer uses the same thermal paper as used in our circulation transaction printer at workstation #1. We have noticed that for fine and copy payment transactions, it does generally display a window asking if you would like to cancel print, just select no and the receipt will print as expected. Even if you select yes (cancel print), a partial receipt will print. I have requested that this extra step and window be removed from the program.
ONEcard Offices
We often need to refer clients to one of the OneCard offices on main campus, and have contact information sheets for the offices that can be handed out to clients at the service desk.

Continuing Education Student Library Access Information
As a relatively recent development - ContEd students now have remote access to library resources during the term of their course. The information below is taken form the Continuing Education website: Forms and Policies: Libraries and Cultural Resources.
2. Off Campus, Database Access Instructions
Continuing Education students who are taking courses that are 10 instructional hours or longer have remote access to the online journals and ebooks available at the University of Calgary Library. This applies to both classroom and online courses.
· Simply visit the Library Website and search for any journals or ebooks.
· When prompted for a Login, use your MyContEd registration portal password with your UCID. (This may be a different password than what you use to login to Blackboard.)
· If you do not know your MyContEd password, contact the Continuing Education office at 403-220-2866.

HSL Online Room Bookings
· Two online room booking improvements coming soon include: bookings on the half hour and an increase in the weekly room booking limit from 2 hours to 3 hours. These changes may be effective as early as November 13th.
· During the transition, the clients may need to enter bookings in the new scheduling calendar. Watch our website for changes and information at: http://webapps2.ucalgary.ca/~lcrweb/hsWorkroom/
HSL Online Room Booking Troubleshooting
· We have had clients experience difficulty when trying to login to the online room booking system. UofC clients should be able to login in using the same username and password as for logging in to MyuofC.
· If they are having general issues with their account passwords, etc. they can go to: https://acctman.ucalgary.ca/recover/Identification.aspx
If clients are having trouble specifically with our room booking login, they can contact our ITS contact, Dung Le by email at: dule@ucalgary.ca.
The email should provide : their username, the exact message they received on the screen after login failed, and a screen capture if possible .
Finding our way Around HSC
We are often asked for assistance at the desk to help clients locate other rooms or spaces on the FMC site. For example, Area 6A, Bioinformatics Lab, Multimedia Services, room G 741, theatre 3 and 4, etc.
The interactive room finder feature on the UofC website is often helpful (http://www.ucalgary.ca/map/interactive), and clients can always be referred to the experts at the HSC information desks. I would be pleased to take staff on short tours to show you the location some of these areas.
Just send me a brief message indicating a preferred date or time.
Copy/Guest cards
The ONEcard Guest Card allows guests of the University of Calgary access to the same debit services as students, faculty, and staff during their stay on-campus.
Guest Cards cost $20.00 and come pre-loaded with $10.00 in the Uni Dollars account.
Uni Dollars are accepted anywhere the ONEcard is accepted: your Guest Card can be used for printing & photocopying, to purchase food at participating locations,
to buy anything at the Bookstore and Microstore, or to purchase items from vending machines.
This means that the cost of the actual card is not increasing, however the minimum on the card at the time of purchase has increased from $5.00 to $10.00. Our POS machines arenot yet set up to sell the new guest cards yet, but watch for more news soon.

Transit of Items to Downtown Campus Library
Items being returned or sent to the downtown Campus Library can be shipped directly through our regular Inter-Campus mail. They are not routed through TFDL. We do have mail labels specific for the Downtown Campus Library.
Sirsi
A reminder that when entering names in Sirsi, we do use the First Name and the Last Name field. We do not use the Middle Name field. We do like to include middle names if there is one, however the middle name should follow the first name in the First Name field.
When adding information to the client Extended Information screen in Sirsi, please use the “Notes” rather thatn the Comments fields. Information in the Notes fields will show up in the handy red Notes link at the top of the display Users screen for easy reference.
Exam Proctoring
HSL is no longer supporting exam proctoring for external or U of C clients because of capacity issues. HSL/HIN will continue to support proctoring for AHS staff.
Non AHS, and U of C clients requesting exam proctoring can be referred to the University proctoring service at:
EndNote
Gelnn Thompson, with ITS confirmed that we have an EndNote license for training only and that this product should not be used or accessed outside of training sessions. To access the software for training, a request is sent to Glenn with the training date. Sara and I can do when requested to book space for EndNote sessions or when notified about sessions by the instructors. Glenn has the dates for the remaining fall sessions.
COPPUL
Please note that COPPUL Graduate students can request ILL through us, but there are no longer any paper forms to complete. They need to contact illomack@ucalgary.ca to request the ILL. Then they will be assigned a login in and password so that they can complete their own requests.
