Hello everyone,
Holiday
Hours
We are beginning to receive
questions at the front desk about our holiday hours.
-
HSL will be closed for the holidays beginning at noon on December 24th, through January 1st.
-
We will re-open with regular hours on January 2nd.
-
Our hours are posted on line at: http://hours.library.ucalgary.ca/#view-health
-
Holiday hours will be posted on the flat panels and in our HSL News early next week.
Coverage for Lourdes
We wish Lourdes a refreshing
vacation! While Lourdes is away over the coming weeks we will be covering some
of her regular assignments as follows:
hslibr email:
Will be monitored by librarians in the consult office
Lexi-Comp/Dynamed code requests: Will
be coordinated by Caitlin and Brian
Desk coverage: We will be single
staffing at the desk in the afternoons, with Sara and myself as back up.
Technology: Please flag any technology issues
for me and I will follow up.
hslibr email
The hslibr email password was reset on Friday morning.
Lourdes has posted the new password in our manuals and on SharePoint.
Librarians logging in individually in the consult office may need to re-enter
the new password when monitoring hslibr.
December Desk Schedule
The December desk schedule has a
new look and a new home! The master schedule is posted on SharePoint in
the content panel along the left hand side of the homepage under "Desk
Shifts". The schedule is now using the calendar format, and work is continuing
to fine tune the display. At the moment the shifts do not line up in specific
columns. The schedule will no longer be printed. Librarians are asked to
update this schedule to reflect any changes made to consult shifts.
Sirsi Holiday
Updates
A number of adjustments have been made to
the Sirsi system to accommodate for the library closure
over the holidays.
-
Sirsi closed dates are entered as: December 21 - January 2nd. that is no books will come due on any of these dates, and 2 week items checked out beginning today will have a due date of January 3rd (though we are open for business January 2nd).
-
Last on shelf hold list for the season will be processed on December 21st.
-
Last delivery of the season from HDL will be on December 21st.
-
Clean hold shelf lists will print for December 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
-
On January 2nd 'catch up' hold lists will print.
Term
Loans
Beginning January 3rd, term loans
due back on January 15th, can be renewed to May 15th.
The first renewal reminder will be
sent out on January 2nd.
Holds
To help identify holds going to
branches at main campus other than TFDL, staff are asked to please highlight branch location
info added to the hold slips. Thanks.
Paper Supplies for HSL Copiers and
Printers
Since the paper for staff, and
public printers and copiers are now ordered under three separate accounts, we
have organized the paper into three separate supplies to monitor use. Paper for
refilling the copiers and printers in the service and public area is kept in the
cabinet behind station #2, and is labelled "Paper Supply". In the cabinet you
will find three piles: Coin Op copiers, student printers, and admin staff use.
When filling the machines with paper please pull from the appropriate supply.
The paper supplies in the HSL storage room are also stored in three separate
piles.
Also, please do not overfill the
paper trays in the copiers or printers. This leads to paper jams. It is better
to under fill than overfill.
HDL - Serials Loan Period
Update
Effective this week, the serials
from HDL that were
previously only 3-day loans, are now 2 week renewable loans. While the
item type may show up as a 3-day serial, Sirsi will automatically assign a 2 week loan period. This
will be a benefit to our clients who will now receive the longer loan period and
the renewal reminders.
Guest
Cards
As mentioned in our November 6th notes, the
General Public Copy cards are being replaced with Guest Copy Cards. We have
just received our supply of these new cards, and our POS at HSL has been re-programmed to sell these
cards. Effective December 6th, we will be using new procedures for issuing the
cards as outlined in the attached document supplied by TFDL staff. The new cards and procedures
are in a binder at the circulation counter labelled: ONEcard Guest Cards
Further information:
-
The ONEcard Guest Card allows guests of the University of Calgary access to the same debit services as students, faculty, and staff during their stay on-campus.
- · Guest Cards cost $20.00 and come pre-loaded with $10.00 in the Uni Dollars account.
- · Uni Dollars are accepted anywhere the ONEcard is accepted: your Guest Card can be used for printing & photocopying, to purchase food at participating locations, to buy anything at the Bookstore and Microstore, or to purchase items from vending machines.
- · This means that the cost of the actual card is not increasing, however the minimum on the card at the time of purchase has increased from $5.00 to $10.00.
- · Our POS machine is now set up to sell the new guest cards.
- We have retained about 5 of the old style General Public Copy cards in case these are needed to replace any older cards that have system issues. These older cards should not be sold to clients, effective today.
-
Please let me know if there are any questions about the new cards or processes. I would also be interested in hearing any feedback from clients.
Wireless
We had received some comments about
the weak or inconsistent wireless access at the back of the library (west wall
carrels). The data technicians tested over several days with a laptop and cell
phone and found no problems with access. If clients do come to the desk with
wireless access concerns, please flag for me with client name and contact, date
and time, and type of device and I will follow up.
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or
suggestions.
