A couple of notes and reminders regarding RefStats

The Reference Workteam is currently in the midst of looking at the transaction logs for the 3-month RefStats pilot study – a report will be forthcoming.

In the interim, though, a couple of notes and reminders:

a. Upon discussions at our last meeting, we would like to propose that questions dealing with the borrowing of headphones and requests for permission to use the KC computers not be included in RefStats. The headphones query has been deemed similar to requests for other items (in particularly stationary), which are no longer being recorded, and thus, to remain consistent, headphone requests should not be recorded either.

b. Please be careful when assigning categories to the types of questions received (there were a few questions in Refstats that were labelled as directional when they were really reference, etc.)

c. Showing patrons how to place holds, renew books, and register for library accounts-online web form (i.e. the process) should be captured in RefStats, but circulation transactions directly performed/mediated by us for our clients (i.e. we renew books over the phone, place a hold for a client at the desk, etc.) should not be counted.
